Is insurance legally required for wedding planners, or is it mainly expected by venues or clients?

There is no nationwide law requiring wedding planners to carry insurance, but:

  • Many venues require proof of liability coverage before allowing planners to coordinate on their property.
  • Clients often ask for proof of insurance as reassurance that their event is protected.

Even when not mandated by law, carrying insurance shows professionalism and opens doors to larger, more profitable contracts.
